1929-1993

Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929. The Belgian actress moved to London with her mother and attended to multiple private schools. When she went back to Belgium, the Nazis took over her town. There, she suffered from starvation and misery. When the war ended, she was able to go to a British ballet school. After few years as a dancer, she started being a model. Even thought she had talent for the modeling business, producers started calling her.

Audrey Hepburn’s first movie was called Dutch in Seven Lesson. Her love for the screen started to increase so, when the 50s started, she tried fortune in America, the glorious country that won the war and that had this new place called Hollywood. In California, she started to have her first main roles. Her best known movies of the 50s were Roman Holiday, produced in 1953, and Sabrina, produced in 1954. She also had a lot of others great successes such as One Wild Oat (1951), Monte Carlo Baby (1952), Funny Face (1957), Love in the Afternoon (1957), Mayerling (1957) , Green Mansions (1959) or her famous role in The Nun’s Story (1959).

The main reason of her fast accomplishments was that instead of being like the others “sex goddesses” actresses, she was more like an innocence type girl with natural beauty. That is what made her different from the other 50s celebrities and made her gain a lot of admirers.

Even though her career started in the 50s, she reached the zenith of her profession in the 60s with her brilliant main role in the Hollywood’s classic: Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961. Another great character she played was Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (1964). Before she turned 30, she had already been nominated for various Oscars and she was one of the most famous women of that time.

She married and divorced Mel Ferrer. After their separation, she decided to quit when she was at the top. Later on, she had another marriage with Dr. Andrea Dotti. Sometimes, she appeared on screen but the last decades of her live were dedicated to the people. In the 1980s, she became a United Nations’ ambassador. She helped children in need that lived in countries of the third world of Latin America and Africa.

Her last movie was Always (1989). In 1993 Audrey Hepburn passed away when she was in Switzerland, after delighting us with 31 glorious movies and losing a fight against cancer.

She will always be remembered as one of the greatest Hollywood stars. Audrey Hepburn was a role model that lived during tough war years. She succeeded because of her elegance and innocence, not because of her legs or sexy body. Audrey was able to retire during her gold years and dedicate her time to help other children in need. The fame did not stop her from being herself. That is why she was and will always be one of the greatest icons of Hollywood’s classics.
